The Egyptian Scarab Beetle has been used as an amulet or a good luck charm. The use of a scarab beetle in the making of jewelry in the form of pendants, bracelets, rings and necklaces was supposed to allow the owner to receive strong magic. The name of the owner was inscribed on their flat bases to ensure that protective powers would be given to the wearer. The greenish blue glass-like material favored by the Ancient Egyptians amulet makers was called Faience, that consisted of crushed quartz, lime and alkali, that was first used in Predynastic Egypt.
